A Halloween Kind of Day!

Twas a long time ago, longer now than it seems, in a place that perhaps you’ve seen in your dreams.
For the story that you are about to be told took place in the holiday worlds of old.
Now, you’ve probably wondered where holidays come from.
If you haven’t, I’d say it’s time you begun.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

You can’t spell Halloween without pumpkin! Am I right? Or… you just can’t spell! Just to get you in the right mood, listen to this beauty: listen to me! Aren’t they simply amazing?

So, last weekend we went to visit a pumpkin farm and get a few pumpkins to decorate our living room. This is kind of an already known procedure as we’ve done this before with our wedding decorations (yes obviously, getting married on Halloween justifies pumpkins as decoration) two years ago and we had a good time. You don’t have to go out to a field to get the pumpkins, they are just sorted out for you in crates and you just get as many as you want of whatever kind you want and trust me they have many!

You obviously have your classic orange pumpkin, these here are not also the biggest ones but they are quite cute and once washed a bit the orange is really bright. Of course that goes away with time, so even if you want keep a pumpkin for months (unless it’s bumped or scratched) the bright autumnal orange colour will start to fade. We don’t carve them or anything, I believe this would make them last even less, we just place them as they are after washing them they they can last easily till Christmas.

That been said I must share with you that my mum, manage to keep one -of the white smooth ones- for more than a year after our wedding as decoration in her kitchen. Please, keep in mind that this specific pumpkin traveled from the farm to our flat, to our sink, to our wedding, to my mum’s purse, to the hotel, and then of course it had to fly from Germany all the way to Greece! How many pumpkins have you met that have been so well traveled? Not many, I bet! This one was so special to her, I had to really convince her that it was time to let her go… It wasn’t as easy as it may seem…

Of course, everyone will say that the white pumpkins are the cutest ones and who am I to disagree but let’s keep an open mind here, take a step back and consider that there are other kinds of pumpkins to decorate your house with. I am obviously going somewhere with this! I do not really know any pumpkin names to be honest, but here in Germany one name struck me the most, the UFO pumpkin! Have you ever heard of that? Probably not. Let me introduce you to this great breed of pumpkins:
They are actually quite flat but I promise they are super-adorable and unique! Also, to be fair they are the ones with the less risk to roll off. Haven’t even had that happen but who knows! They actually have a round and flat UFO like shape and they come in any possible pumpkin colour. For this year, we decided to go only with a white/green one since we didn’t have any survivors from these in the past.

Do you have a favourite kind of pumpkin? Have you ever visited a pumpkin patch or farm and maybe even picked your own? Leave me a comment, I’d love to know! Also, feel free to have a look at my video, give it the thumbs up and subscribe if you like!
